Glabellar Frown Lines

What are glabellar lines?

Glabellar lines are wrinkles that appear between the eyebrows. They are often referred to as frown lines as frowning makes their appearance more prevalent. Glabellar lines may appear as a single vertical line or as two or more lines and may also appear angled towards the inner corners of the eyebrows. The muscles of the lower forehead contract in a downward direction causing the skin between the eyebrows to crease. Glabellar lines become more prevalent with age, due in part to the changing elasticity of the skin.

Treatment for glabellar lines

Glabellar lines are normally treated with a series of BOTOX® wrinkle relaxing injections. Botulinum toxin type A is injected into the skin causing local relaxation of the muscles. Glabellar lines can sometimes appear more pronounced and may require treatment with dermal fillers, depending on the depth and severity of the lines.

Treatment recommendations

It is recommended that glabellar lines are treated together with the other areas of the upper face: forehead lines and/or crow’s feet (eye wrinkles). Treatment of glabellar lines alone may accentuate the appearance of lines and wrinkles of neighbouring areas. Clients typically consider multiple upper facial areas as the best approach to anti ageing.
